Synopsis
In 1950s Mexico City, an American ex-pat in his late forties lives a lonely life in the middle of a small American community. However, the arrival of a young student finally inspires the man to have a meaningful relationship with someone.. Daniel Craig finally watches the audition tapes with Guadagnino and tells him that he is "the guy" after seeing Starkey.. Or what’s left after four years in the Navy..
Queer attempts to reveal the complex relationship between people
Features Orfej (1950). Society tends to categorize people in their constant, failed attempts to identify them. This film shows some of the realities of the male species. In a nutshell, men are much more complex than they give them credit for.
The film begins somewhat predictably
It is a far cry from what we know of director Luca’s work. Another "Call Me By Your Name" or anything close to it. It’s different and it takes you to a different time and place where men weren’t so easy to read. They still aren’t easy to read.
And that’s all there is to say about this film, in short
The only difference today is that we tend to apply our own perceptions and suspicions to people we don’t really know anything about. To say more about the film would only be to give away its secrets. This is a film that you’ll want to discover for yourself without reading too much. It’s slow, but it’s gradually becoming more engaging and very subtle and beautiful to watch.
For that alone, I
I would have liked to see more coverage of the young man, but I get the intentions behind its, sometimes, vague narrative. The film beautifully and visually explores how most of us really want to see the true soul of the person we entrust our hearts to. believe, the film has served its purpose.
