Remake of The Day of the Jackal (1973)
Synopsis
The jackal is an elusive assassin who makes his living by pulling off hits for the highest fee. He soon meets his match in a tenacious British intelligence officer who follows him on a thrilling cat-and-mouse chase across Europe.. “Day of the Jackal”; the novel took place in 1963 and involved an assassination attempt on the then president of France, Charles de Gaulle. The show moves the setting to the current era.. Spy/spy/assassin movies have always been my favorite, from the earliest memories of James Bond to Mission Impossible and Jason Bourne, movies like Shooter, Day of the Jackal (original) and The Jackal, Leon the Professional and the list goes on.
It certainly creates authenticitywhich is pretty damn nice to see
This is just another great series in a long list of great shows. With Eddie Redmayne at the helm, and seriously, he’s a phenom, this show is great. I’ve worked with guns most of my life, been around guns all my life and personally hold gunsmith licenses for firearms – it’s very easy to see that they brought in industry experts and the military to consult on this show . The entire cast seems to flow pretty well together…except for one. I first saw Lashana Lynch in the latest James Bond and honestly didn’t think her performance was anything special.
But 5 episodes down
I actually thought she was awful. Unlike previous black actors (if that was the intention), and let’s go there, she failed to measure up to the lovely Halle Berry or even the legendary Grace Jones. It felt wooden, flat, uninspired, frankly unworthy and talentless. But I thought maybe he just absorbed James Bond, “give it another try”. it just sucks.
Damn, how about Thandiwe Newton SHE’S FANTASTIC!!!
I don’t know what her job was before acting, but she might want to think about going back to it. I think the casting choice for Lashana Lynch was honestly bad. Personally, Idris Elba would have been an extremely good choice as an MI6 agent. If you need a black British woman, Christine Adams is great! So many great choices and they chose a cardboard cutout.

If you can essentially ignore Lashana Lynch hopelessly, the show is great. It’s unfortunate that this is going to be a mini series and not a multi-season show that would have been something special. I think Eddie Redmayne should seriously consider other spy style TV shows as he is fascinating to watch and this show would get a 10/10 if it wasn’t for Lynch’s terrible casting choice.. A New season of “Silo”; is one of the biggest TV and streaming premieres this month.
